Generations of swimmers
Sport Fair has been an Arlington institution since 1955 after being founded by "Rigger" Ramsey. An avid sportsman, Rigger's Sport Fair sold everything an outdoorsman could ask for. In addition to the swimwear we specialize in today, Sport Fair sold fishing rods and reels, football gear, clothing, and even firearms and hunting permits.
Our original premises were just down the street, in the heart of Cherrydale at 3617 Lee Highway. Sport Fair thrived in this location for more than 30 years. During that time, we became more specialized. Football helmets gave way to swim fins and hunting licenses gave way to lifeguard suits. By the time we were ready for our move to 5121 Lee Highway in 1985, we were The Swimmer's Outfitter that we are today. Although the products have changed from our time in Cherrydale, the hard work, expertise, and customer service have stayed the same.
In 1982, Gary Ramsey took over full Captaincy of the Sport Fair ship from his father. Under Gary's guidance, Sport Fair has been laser-focused on competitive swimming. During our time at 5121, Sport Fair focused on improving already fantastic relationships with customers and suppliers, forging partnerships along the way. The goal then as now is not simply to sell a product; but rather to outfit swimmers to compete at whatever level they require, from lessons to Olympic Trials, and everything in between.
They say that necessity is the mother of invention. In Sport Fair's case, necessity was the mother of action in 2007. After nearly 25 years at 5121, it was time for a bigger space. In January 2008, Sport Fair moved to our current location at 5010 Lee Highway. Our new location is bigger and better than ever, with our own parking lot and tons of storage space to better serve our customers.
In the last 56 years, Sport Fair has been through a lot as a business. Through it all, our customers have remained the best there could be. Many of our current customers are the grandchildren of our customers in the early days! From generation to generation, Sport Fair has remained steadfast in our determination to serve our customers at the highest level. We hope to deliver that level of service for generations to come.
